The first genetic mutation that protects
against aging has been found in humans, with scientists using this discovery to
develop a longevity drug that attempts to protect people from aging-related
diseases. While scientists have always known that certain communities live
longer than others, the genetic markers for increased longevity have always
been a mystery. Researchers found what they were looking for in an extended
family of Old Order Amish living in the vicinity of Berne, Indiana, where
people not only live longer but also have significantly less cases of diabetes
and better overall health outcomes.

Regular fitness routines are great for your
body and mind, with even small amounts of exercise found to protect against
depression. While fitness regimes are often promoted as a way to lose weight or
gain muscle, according to a new study by the Black Dog Institute, there are
also significant mental health benefits associated with physical activity. Just
one hour of exercise each week was found to prevent future depression in some
people, with the Black Dog Institute using these findings in its 'Exercise Your
Mood' campaign which encourages people to improve their physical and mental
well-being through exercise.
